Messy Desktop?
Filed and searchable
the moment you capture.

Shelvo is a screenshot organizer that lives in your Mac’s menu bar. Take a screenshot, type a folder name, and it’s filed. Every word inside is read on your Mac, so you can find it again in a second.

Shelvo is a Mac app. Open this page on your Mac to download it.

One keypress from capture to filed.

No new shortcut to learn. Shelvo waits for the screenshots you already take.

  1. 1

    Capture

Press ⇧⌘4 (or 3, or 5) like always. Shelvo notices the new screenshot instantly.

  2. 2

    Name & file

A small prompt asks where it goes. Type a folder, autocomplete fills it in, press Return.

  3. 3

    Find it later

Search for any word you remember from the image: an error message, an order number, a line from a slide.

Small app. Big difference to your Desktop.

  • Real folders in Finder

Every filed screenshot is an ordinary file in a folder you choose, like ~/Pictures/Shelvo. Open it in Finder, back it up, or stop using Shelvo. Nothing is locked in.

  • Copy text out

Select and copy text straight out of any saved screenshot with Live Text. Zoom in on previews to read the small print.

  • Auto-save for busy days

Rather not be asked? Turn on auto-save and every new screenshot lands in General. Sort them later from the library.

  • A library, one folder at a time

A library window with your folders and thumbnails. Search is scoped to the folder you’ve selected.

  • Your shortcuts, untouched

Keep pressing ⇧⌘3, ⇧⌘4 and ⇧⌘5. Shelvo watches your screenshot folder, so it needs no Screen Recording permission.

  • Menu bar only

No Dock icon, no window in your way. Shelvo can start at login and waits in the menu bar until a screenshot arrives.

From screenshot graveyard to a library you can search.

Before 214 files called “Screenshot…” and no idea which one has the error message.
After Named, foldered, and searchable by the words inside.

Your screenshots never leave your Mac.

Text recognition and search run entirely on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and there’s no account to make. Shelvo goes online for two things only: checking for updates and activating your license.

Questions, answered.

What happens after I download?

Open Shelvo.dmg and move Shelvo to your Applications folder, then open it. A short setup asks which folder your screenshots land in and where you want the library (for example ~/Pictures/Shelvo). After that Shelvo waits in the menu bar for your next screenshot.

Does it upload my screenshots?

No. Your screenshots, their names and the text read from them stay on your Mac. The only network use is checking for updates and activating your license. The privacy policy lists exactly what those calls send.

What happens after 30 screenshots?

Everything you’ve already filed stays filed and searchable. New screenshots stay untouched in your screenshot folder until you buy Shelvo for $5, once.

Which macOS do I need?

macOS 13 Ventura or later.

Can I use it on more than one Mac?

Yes, enter your license key on each of your Macs. Moving to a new Mac? Choose Remove License in Settings on the old one to free its activation.

How do updates work?

Shelvo checks for updates in the background and installs them from inside the app when you agree. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings.
